This is a wonderful coffee cake recipe handed down from my grandmother. She was an excellent cook and it is treasured in my household. Great for Fall!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups wesson oil
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups apples (jonathan or rome)
  • 1 cup pecans, chopped

How To Make apple coffee cake

  • Step 1
    Cake Directions: Mix first seven ingredients together with a spoon. (too stiff for a mixer.)
  • Step 2
    When all mixed, put in apples and nuts last and stir well.
  • Step 3
    Put in well greased and floured 9 x 13 pan. Bake at 325 degrees for about 50 minutes. Ice with Caramel Topping . (recipe below)
  • Step 4
    Caramel Topping: 1 cup brown sugar, packed 1 stick butter 2 Tbsp. Pet milk 1/2 tsp.vanilla 1 cup powdered sugar Place brown sugar, butter, milk and flavoring in boiler and let come to a good boil. Take off stove and put in powdered sugar and beat gradually. Pour over cake while still warm in pan.
