How to Make Apple Butter Cake With Spiced Frosting


  1. Allow butter and eggs to stand at room temp. for 30 minutes. Meanwhile grease 2 8x1 1/2 inch round cake pans. In a medium bowl stir together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger; set aside.
  2. Preheat oven to 350. In a large mixing bowl beat butter and shortening. Add sugar and vanilla, beat until well combined. Add eggs one at a time beating well after each addition. Alternately add flour mixture and buttermilk to butter mixture beating well after each addition. Add apple butter mix well. Spread into prepared pans. Bake 30-35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool cake layers on wire rack. Frost with spice frosting.
  3. Spice Frosting: 1 Cup shortening, 1/2 jar marshmallow cream, 4 cups powder sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon cloves, 1/4 teaspoons, ginger, 1/4 teaspoons nutmeg, 3-4 tablespoons milk. Mix until well blended and smooth.
