Ingredients

  • ·
    5 medium apples
  • ·
    1/2 t. cinnamon
  • ·
    1/3 cup brown sugar
  • ·
    1/2 cup butter
  • ·
    1/2 cup white sugar
  • ·
    3 eggs
  • ·
    lemon rind -- grated
  • ·
    1 1/2 cups flour
  • ·
    1 1/2 t. baking powder

How to Make Alexander Wolcott Dutch Apple Cake

Step-by-Step

  1. Peel core and slice apples and sprinkle with mixture of the brown sugar and cinnamon.
  2. . Cream butter and sugar and unbeaten eggs 1 at a time, stirring well. Add lemon rind, add flour and baking powder, a little at a time. Fold carefully.
  3. . Cover with about half of the sliced apples. Spread on remaining half of batter. Arrange rest of apple slices in pattern on top. Bake 1 hour at 350.
