Made many times for its dark chocolate taste, fine texture and easy prep. The frosting alone makes any cake great!

Ingredients

  • 3 oz
    chocolate, unsweetened squares
  • 1/3 c
    strong coffee
  • 1/4 c
    butter, softened
  • 2 1/4 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 c
    strong coffee

How to Make A Favorite chocolate cake

Step-by-Step

  1. Melt chocolate in 1/3 cup coffee over low heat,stirring. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Measure and sift the dry ingredients together.
  3. Cream butter and brown sugar very well.
  4. Add one egg at a time beat well after each one.
  5. Add vanilla and blend in the chocolate. Beat well.
  6. Add dry ingredients alternately with the cup of coffee -use low speed and just combine.
  7. Put into 2- 9 inch pans or a 10x 13 pan that is well buttered and lined with wax paper.
  8. Bake in a 350 degree oven until cooked through 35 or 40 minutes.
  9. Cool 10 minutes in pans, then remove to cool on racks and frost with Dark Chocolate Frosting when cooled.
