I have had this recipe for 37 years now. I had to give the girl who gave it to me, 8 free hair cuts. Its worth every bite This Chocolate Cake recipe is a winner with everyone...the recipe is a moist, and rich Chocolate Cake, you cannot stop with one slice...$100 Cake got its name back in the Old West Day's...A Saloon Cook gave his recipe to a local town woman he was smitten with, she promised and agreed she would never share his secret recipe with anyone. Well, she did, the Saloon Cook took her to Court, sued her for $100 and won the law suit...so, this is how it became the $100 Cake. That ended the relationship between the Saloon Cook and the Local Town Woman. Enjoy The $100 Cake

Ingredients

  • CAKE
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 - eggs
  • 1/2 cup oil (i like my cake more moist, so i use 3/4 cup oil)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup strong black coffee (use instant coffee 5 tbs. mixed with hot tap water)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • FROSTING
  • 1 package cream cheese
  • 1 stick real butter
  • 1 box powdered sugar

How To Make $100 cake

  • Step 1
Mix all cake ingredients into one large mixing bowl: Set Oven @350 Degree and greese & lightly flour a 9 X 13 Pan Mix with wisk for 2 minutes, the batter will be very thin but that's the SECRET, DO NOT add extra flour! Make sure you do not slam any doors, and walk very easy while baking this cake, as it will drop in the middle, so make sure to bake when your alone or everyone at night is in bed sleeping.
  • Step 2
FROSTING: Place cream cheese & butter into bowl while cake is baking as it needs to soften up. Mix the cream cheese & butter well, add a little at a time of the powdered sugar until all is mixed well. Don't over mix as it will be somewhat thick. I use a large soup spoon and place several spoonfuls all over the cooled cake, and I also spread it out by using the spoon...this cake is good at room temp. but I keep mine in the refrigerator...ENJOY
