Ingredients

  • 6 lg. cooking apples, peeled and sliced
  • 2 C. flour
  • 3/4 C. brown sugar
  • 3/4 C. oatmeal (quick)
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 C. shortening
  • 3/4 C. sugar
  • 1 Tbs. cornstarch
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 C. boiling water
  • 1 Tbs. butter

How To Make deep dish apple pie

  • Step 1
    Combine flour, brown sugar, oatmeal, and salt in a bowl. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender. Reserving one cup, press remaining mixture into a 10-inch deep dish pie plate.
  • Step 2
    Combine sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon in a heavy saucepan. Stir in water and butter. Cook, stirring constantly, for 3 minutes. Stir apples into hot mixture and pour into prepared pie plate.
  • Step 3
    Top with reserved crumbs. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes.
