Another good one from mom! Serves: single recipe serves 6, use 9x13 pan double recipe serves 10-12, use 3 qt pan Note: May be made ahead of time.

Ingredients

  • 6 - pork chops, thick
  • 1 tablespoon margarine
  • 1/4 cup onion,chopped
  • 1 quart sauerkraut
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • to taste - salt and pepper
  • to taste - thyme
  • to taste - bay leaf
  • 1 cup bread crumbs, buttered

How To Make german style pork chops

  • Step 1
    Sauté chops in margarine until brown
  • Step 2
    Put 3 chops in bottom of greased casserole. Add 2 tbs onion and 2 cups sauerkraut
  • Step 3
    Repeat #2
  • Step 4
    Mix flour with juice from pan, add water and sour cream. Pour over chops.
  • Step 5
    Cover and bake at 350 for 2-2 1/2 hours. (Rest assured, the time this is not a typo!)
  • Step 6
    Uncover and sprinkle the bread crumbles on top, then bake 15 minutes.
