2 tablespoons tomato paste (optional)
1 (14.5 ounce) can whole tomatoes, crushed with hands*
1 tablespoon calabrian chilies, chopped (optional)**
1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
1 teaspoon oregano
1/2 cup heavy/whipping cream
1/4 cup parmigiano reggiano (parmesan cheese), grated
salt and pepper to taste
2 tablespoons basil, thinly sliced (optional)
