1 (14.5 ounce) can tomatoes (whole, diced, crushed or pureed)
3 roasted red peppers (jarred or homemade)
1 tablespoon olive oil
8 ounces Italian sausage, casings removed
1 small onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
1 pinch red pepper flakes (optional)
1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
1 teaspoon oregano
1/3 cup heavy/whipping cream
1/3 cup parmigiano reggiano (parmesan cheese), grated
salt and pepper to taste
2 tablespoons basil, thinly sliced
