1 stick/125g softened butter, plus some for greasing (I always bake with salted butter but you can use what suits you)

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

¾ cup/150g superfine/caster sugar

1½ cups/225g all-purpose/plain flour

½ teaspoon baking powder
•
½ teaspoon baking soda
•
1 tablespoon vanilla extract

2 eggs

For the frosting:
•
½ cup milk
•
2 tablespoons light brown sugar
•
1½ sticks (3/4 cup) butter, cubed
•
11 ounces dark chocolate, chopped
