Chocolate Applesauce Brownies

1/2 teaspoon baking powder
•
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
•
1/4 teaspoon salt
•
1 stick or 8 tablespoons or 1/2 cup butter
•
1/2 cup chocolate chips
•
1 cup white granulated sugar
•
1 cup applesauce
•
2 eggs
•
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
•
1/2 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts, (optional))
