INGREDIENTS

3 cups all purpose flour

1/4 cup plus 2 tbsp. granulated sugar

1 tbsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

1 stick cold, (unsalted butter, cubed)
•
1 1/4 cups buttermilk, (plus more for brushing)
•
1 cup halved cherries, (I used this OXO cherry pitter for quick pitting of my cherries)
•
2 tbsp sparkling sugar
•
2 cups confectioners' sugar
•
3 tbsp milk or buttermilk
•
1/2 tsp almond extract
•
1/2 cup sliced almonds, (for topping)
