buttercream frosting
I used this recipe when I decorated cakes. You can add cocoa or melt chocolate for a chocolate frosting. This recipe is what I use to frost our ginger cookies for Christmas, also. I would not use this for decorated cupcakes, it is way too sweet.

Frosts a layer cake
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup crisco
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 3 cups confectioners' sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
How To Make buttercream frosting

Step 1Soften the butter, do not melt. Cream the Crisco and butter together in a mixing bowl using the whip attachment.

Step 2Add vanilla, confectioner's sugar and milk and whip until it is mixed together well.(You may have to add more milk for spreading consistency)
