Buttermilk Yellow Cake with Martha’s Chocolate Fudge Icing

1 (15.25-ounce) package yellow or butter cake mix
4 tbsp (half a 3.4-ounce package) vanilla instant pudding mix
3 lg eggs
1 ¼ c buttermilk, preferably whole milk
12 tbsp (1½ sticks) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
2 tsp vanilla extract
½ tsp almond extract (optional)
Sprinkles, for decorating (optional)
½ c (packed) dark brown sugar
½ c granulated sugar
6 tbsp unsalted butter
⅓ c whole milk
1 c (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
¼ tsp salt
