For the cakes:

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

3 cups all-purpose flour

½ tsp salt

2 ¼ cups packed light-brown sugar

5 large eggs

¾ cup buttermilk (I used sour cream)

For the glaze (for both cakes, or half for one):

1/3 cup icing sugar

2 tbsp maple syrup
