Ingredients
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup fine cornmeal, sifted
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/3 cup shortening, melted
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for greasing waffle iron)

Step 1Preheat the waffle iron.

Step 2Beat the eggs in a large mixing bowl until light in color. Gradually add the remaining ingredients and whisk until blended thoroughly.

Step 3Brush the waffle iron generously with the melted butter. Pour batter onto hot waffle iron and bake until golden. Serve with butter and syrup.
