Having been in the US Navy for almost 10 years, I missed this breakfast, and searched it out many years ago. Not sure where i found it but still enjoy this from time to time.

Stove Top


1 1/2 lb
lean ground beef
2 medium
onions, chopped
5 Tbsp
all-purpose flour
2 can(s)
8 oz cans diced tomatoes with juice, i used the flavored ones
1 can(s)
5.5 oz can tomato juice, v8 works well here
2 c
hot water
1/2 tsp
ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp
granulated sugar
salt and pepper to taste

How to Make US Navy Minced Beef on Toast


  • 1In a large skillet, over medium heat, brown the ground beef and onions. DO NOT DRAIN. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • 2Stir in flour 1 tablespoon at a time, until beef juices have been absorbed.
  • 3Stir in tomatoes, tomato juice and water. Simmer on low heat to thicken.
  • 4Stir in nutmeg and sugar, simmer until all the flavors are blended well.
