Classic Southern recipe! Used a lot at Brunches.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups wat
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 cup grits
  • 1/4 cup cream
  • 1 tablespoon butter, not a mistake! actually need this second tablespoon
  • SHRIMP SAUCE
  • 20 large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 4 ounces country ham, chopped
  • 4 ounces smoked sausage
  • 4 tablespoons fresh tomatoes, seeded and chopped
  • 4 tablespoons green onions, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • - caajun seasoning to tasdte

How To Make shrimp and grits

  • Step 1
    Grits: Bring water, salt and 1 Tablespoon butter to a boil. Stir in grits and reduce heat and cook, stirring occasionally, until grits are thick and creamy, approximately 40 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in cream and remaining butter. Keep warm.
  • Step 2
    Shrimp Sauce: Saute ham and sausage in 1 teaspoon butter. Add shrimp and saute 1 to 2 minutes. Add garlic and Cajun spice. Saute 30 seconds. Add green onions and tomatoes. Add water. Finish with remaining butter. Serve over grits.
