How To Make red velvet cinnamon rolls
-
Step 1In the mixing bowl of an electric mixer, combine warm water and yeast. Allow to sit and bloom, about 5 – 10 minutes.
-
Step 2Once the yeast is active (mixture should be foamy on top), add the warm milk, cake mix, flour, and salt.
-
Step 3With the dough hook attached, mix on low until dough comes together and starts to pull away from the sides, 5 minutes. NOTE: If you do not have an electric mixer, you can mix everything in a large bowl and knead the dough by hand on a well-floured surface.
-
Step 4Form into a ball and move the dough to a large bowl that has a light coating of oil. Turn the ball over to coat with oil. Cover with plastic wrap and a towel. Place over a pan or bowl of hot (not boiling) water and let sit until almost doubled in size, about 1 hour.
-
Step 5After the dough has doubled, make the filling. In a medium bowl, mix together butter, sugars, and cinnamon until well combined.
-
Step 6Turn dough onto a floured surface and roll into a large rectangle.
-
Step 7Spread filling over the dough and roll up into a long log.
-
Step 8Slice into 12 rolls. Preheat oven to 375F. Place rolls into a pan sprayed with baking oil, cover with plastic wrap and a towel, allow to rise until double (about 30 – 45 minutes.)
-
Step 9After rising, bake until golden – about 20 to 25 minutes (depending upon your oven.)
-
Step 10While the rolls are baking, beat together the icing ingredients. Mixture should be pourable.
-
Step 11Scoop into a plastic zip style bag, snip a corner off.
-
Step 12Drizzle over the warm rolls.
-
Step 13Serve the rolls immediately and enjoy with a cup of your favorite hot beverage.
