quick biscuits and gravy... my way
I added bell pepper and sweet onion to really intensify the flavor of classic biscuits and gravy. A bit of butter makes it rich and creamy. This age-old classic is always a big hit for breakfast or dinner! My husband and I love to eat the left-over biscuits with better and strawberry jelly.

How To Make quick biscuits and gravy... my way
-
Step 1I like to make the sausage and gravy first so that the flavors sit and blend. I cover the sausage and let it sit until I am ready to eat. When it is time to eat, I warm the mixture up on medium low heat while making the biscuits.
-
Step 2Coarse chop the onion and bell pepper. In a medium fry pan on medium heat, melt the butter on medium heat. Add the onions, bell pepper, black pepper and salt and sauté until the onions and peppers are soft. This will take about 5-8 minutes or so.
-
Step 3Add the raw sausage to the pan and cook until it is done, stirring occasionally. Do not drain the grease. If using Jimmie Dean sausage, there is the correct amount of sausage grease. This small amount of grease packs punch of flavor! If you use a different sausage that produces a lot of grease, drain the grease leaving three tablespoons in the pan. Return pan to burner.
-
Step 4Stir in 2 slightly heaping tablespoons of flour to the pan and cook for about 2-3 minutes stirring until the flour is well absorbed.
-
Step 5Add enough whole milk to the pan until the meat and vegetable mixture is covered 3/4 of the way. Bring to a simmer, stirring slowly every few minutes until the mixture becomes a slightly thickened gravy.
-
Step 6If you want a thicker gravy add a little more flour mixed into a tablespoon of water. If you want a thinner gravy, simply add a little more milk.
-
Step 7Cook the biscuits according to the can's directions, and then spoon the sausage and gravy over them. Enjoy!
