This is a very old recipe. Way back in the old days... many recipes were made in the form of a poem so that it would be easy for the cook to remember. I thought I would share this with you.

Ingredients

2 cups corn meal
1 cup wheat flour
1 cup sour milk
1 cup milk
5 - eggs
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda

How To Make poem for johnny cakes!

Step 1

Johnny Cake Poem "Two cups Indian, one cup wheat One cup sour milk, one cup sweet, One cup good eggs that you can eat, One-half cup Molasses, too, One-half cup sugar add thereto, Salt and soda, each a spoon, Mix up quickly and bake it soon,"
