Blue Ribbon Recipe
We'd like to wake up with Morning Kisses every day. They are almost like donut holes, but so much better. Once fried, the outside is slightly crisp. Inside, though, is super soft and pillow-like. There's a slight orange flavor that's refreshing. A delicious treat for a special breakfast or brunch.
The Test Kitchen
Ingredients
-
1 cricotta cheese
-
2eggs
-
1/2 call-purpose flour
-
1 1/2 tspbaking powder
-
1/8 tspsalt
-
1/2 tspnutmeg
-
2-3 Tbspsugar
-
1 Tbsporange zest
-
1 tsporange extract
-
1/2 tspvanilla extract
-
·safflower oil
-
2 Tbsppowdered sugar
How to Make Morning Kisses
- Fill a large, shallow skillet with approximately 3/4 inch safflower oil. Place over medium-high heat (300-375 degrees; you will know when the oil is hot enough when a bit of batter sizzles when dropped in.) Drop small rounded teaspoons of batter into the hot oil, 8 to 10 at a time. The batter will puff and the undersides will turn golden brown. After about 1 to 2 minutes, flip the "kisses" over and cook for 1 to 2 more minutes until golden brown.
