Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon ground flax seed
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups finely chopped, peeled apples
  • 2 - eggs
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/4 cup applesauce
  • TOPPING
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans

How To Make heart healthy apple coffee cake

  • Step 1
    Grease a 9-inch round baking pan.
  • Step 2
    In a small bowl stir the flour, soda, cinnamon, flax seed, and salt together.
  • Step 3
    Combine apples and eggs, then add the sugar, nuts and applesauce.
  • Step 4
    Add the dry mixture, stir and pour batter into a prepared pan.
  • Step 5
    Topping: Stir brown sugar, 2 tablespoons flour and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon together.
  • Step 6
    Cut in butter until crumbly; add nuts and sprinkle over batter.
  • Step 7
    Bake in a 350 degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
  • Step 8
    Cool for 10 minutes. Serves 10.
