Ingredients
- 4 cups milk
- 1 cup grits
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
- 1/3 cup butter, melted
- 1 cup gruyere cheese, shredded (4 ounces)
- 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, freshly grated
How To Make gruyere cheese grits

Step 1Preheat oven to 350F.

Step 2Bring milk to a boil in a large saucepan over medium heat, stirring frequently. Add grits and butter, stirring until butter melts.

Step 3Cook for 5 minutes, stirring constantly, or until the consistency of oatmeal. Remove from heat.

Step 4Stir a small amount of the hot grits mixture into the egg. Add egg mixture back into grits mixture, stirring until well blended.

Step 5Stir in salt, white pepper, melted butter and Gruyère, blending well.

Step 6Spoon into a greased 2-quart baking dish.

Step 7Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.

Step 8Bake for 1 hour, covering with foil, if necessary, to prevent overbrowning.
