Ingredients

  • 4 cups milk
  • 1 cup grits
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup gruyere cheese, shredded (4 ounces)
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, freshly grated

How To Make gruyere cheese grits

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350F.
  • Step 2
    Bring milk to a boil in a large saucepan over medium heat, stirring frequently. Add grits and butter, stirring until butter melts.
  • Step 3
    Cook for 5 minutes, stirring constantly, or until the consistency of oatmeal. Remove from heat.
  • Step 4
    Stir a small amount of the hot grits mixture into the egg. Add egg mixture back into grits mixture, stirring until well blended.
  • Step 5
    Stir in salt, white pepper, melted butter and Gruyère, blending well.
  • Step 6
    Spoon into a greased 2-quart baking dish.
  • Step 7
    Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
  • Step 8
    Bake for 1 hour, covering with foil, if necessary, to prevent overbrowning.
