Ingredients
- 2 cups milk
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon grated lemon rind
- 8 slices french bread, thick
- 1 cup bread crumbs
- 2 large tart apples, peeled, cored, sliced
- 2 cups water
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 3 - sliced smoked bratwurst links (8 ounces)
- 1/4 cup minced onion
- 8 teaspoons sugar cinnamon mixture
- - maple syrup
How To Make german french toast

Step 1Preheat oven to 425.

Step 2Whisk together milk, egg yolks and lemon rind.

Step 3Soak bread slices in egg mixture until saturated.

Step 4Whisk egg whites until frothy.

Step 5Dip soaked bread in whites and then dredge in bread crumbs.

Step 6Arrange on greased cookie sheet and bake for 15 minutes.

Step 7Remove, turn over and return to oven for 10 minutes longer.

Step 8While toast is baking, place apple slices in small saucepan with the 2 cups water and lemon juice.

Step 9Bring to a boil and remove from heat.

Step 10Saute bratwurst and onions together until crispy brown.

Step 11To serve, sprinkle toast with sugar/cinnamon mixture, cover with cooked, drained apple slices, sauteed bratwurst and onions.

Step 12Serve with maple syrup.
