Old Southern style tomato gravy. We love it for breakfast or brunch over biscuits. The pan drippings from your breakfast meat is what gives it a rich, old timey flavor.

Stove Top


  • 2 can(s)
    diced tomatoes
  • 4 Tbsp
  • 1 c
    stock (chicken or beef)
  • 1 tsp
  • 1 Tbsp
    black pepper
  • 3 Tbsp
    pan drippings (sausage, bacon or ham)

How to Make Easy Tomato Gravy


  1. Heat tomatoes in iron skillet over medium heat.
  2. Stir flour into stock and whisk until there are no lumps.
  3. Stir flour/stock mixture into hot tomatoes, whisking as you stir.
  4. Bring to a boil and stir until thickened.
  5. Reduce heat to simmer.
  6. Stir in salt, pepper and pan drippings.
  7. Simmer for at least 5-10 minutes.
