This is my go-to recipe when guests stay over. I can make it the night before and just pop it in the oven. Everyone loves it and I can spend time visiting instead of standing over a griddle!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
  • 12 slices 1-inch thick french bread
  • 6 - large eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

How To Make caramel french toast

  • Step 1
    Combine sugar, butter and corn syrup in a small saucepan. Cook over medium heat until smooth and thickened, stir constantly.
  • Step 2
    Coat a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish with cooking spray. Pour butter mixture into the dish. Fit bread slices tightly into the dish, trimming if necessary.
  • Step 3
    In a medium bowl combine eggs, milk, vanilla and salt whisking together well. Pour egg mixture over bread.
  • Step 4
    Cover and refrigerate for eight hours.
  • Step 5
    Bake uncovered at 350 degrees F. for 45 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • Step 6
    Slice into sections and serve upside down. Garnish with whipped cream or whipped butter.
