This is my go-to recipe when guests stay over. I can make it the night before and just pop it in the oven. Everyone loves it and I can spend time visiting instead of standing over a griddle!

Ingredients

1 c
packed light brown sugar
1 c
butter
2 Tbsp
light corn syrup
12 slice
1-inch thick french bread
6
large eggs, beaten
1 1/2 c
milk
1 tsp
vanilla extract
1/4 tsp
salt

How to Make Caramel French Toast

Step-by-Step

  • 1Combine sugar, butter and corn syrup in a small saucepan. Cook over medium heat until smooth and thickened, stir constantly.
  • 2Coat a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish with cooking spray. Pour butter mixture into the dish. Fit bread slices tightly into the dish, trimming if necessary.
  • 3In a medium bowl combine eggs, milk, vanilla and salt whisking together well. Pour egg mixture over bread.
  • 4Cover and refrigerate for eight hours.
  • 5Bake uncovered at 350 degrees F. for 45 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • 6Slice into sections and serve upside down. Garnish with whipped cream or whipped butter.
