This is my go-to recipe when guests stay over. I can make it the night before and just pop it in the oven. Everyone loves it and I can spend time visiting instead of standing over a griddle!

Ingredients

  • 1 c
    packed light brown sugar
  • 1 c
    butter
  • 2 Tbsp
    light corn syrup
  • 12 slice
    1-inch thick french bread
  • 6
    large eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 c
    milk
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt

How to Make Caramel French Toast

Step-by-Step

  1. Combine sugar, butter and corn syrup in a small saucepan. Cook over medium heat until smooth and thickened, stir constantly.
  2. Coat a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish with cooking spray. Pour butter mixture into the dish. Fit bread slices tightly into the dish, trimming if necessary.
  3. In a medium bowl combine eggs, milk, vanilla and salt whisking together well. Pour egg mixture over bread.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for eight hours.
  5. Bake uncovered at 350 degrees F. for 45 minutes or until lightly browned.
  6. Slice into sections and serve upside down. Garnish with whipped cream or whipped butter.
