Got this idea from watching Food Networks "Best Thing I Ever Ate" Brunch. Alex Guarnaschelli's favorite Sunday Brunch item, Chocolate French Toast with fresh strawberries, coconut, whipped cream and chocolate cinnamon syrup Mmmmmmmmmm GoooooD !!!!

Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (prepared per pkg instruction)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • 1 pint fresh strawberries sliced
  • 1 cup coconut, shredded
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 stick butter
  • 1 can reddi whip extra creamy topping
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • - confectioners' sugar

How To Make "new york city" chocolate french toast

  • Step 1
    The day before you serve this delicious dish prepare your chocolate cake mix per package instructions and pour into a well greased & floured bread pan(large size)bake at 325* for 40 minutes, allow to cool and remove from pan. Wrap loaf for the next days use.
  • Step 2
    In a shallow casserole dish combine your 6 eggs, vanilla extract, brown sugar and milk together and whisk well. slice your strawberries and set aside, with a long serrated knife make nice uniform slices of your "chocolate bread" In a small saucepan combine your chocolate chips, maple syrup, cinnamon and butter and slowly melt over low heat (stirring often)
  • Step 3
    pre-heat your skillet over med/high heat dip your "bread" slices in the egg mixture coating both sides and place in your pan, cook 2 minutes flip and cook 1-2 more minutes. Place bread on plate layer with strawberries, coconut, top with another slice of bread layer with strawberries, coconut, drizzle completely with cinnamon chocolate syrup, top with whipped cream a fresh strawberry slice and sprinkle with confectioners sugar....WOW!!!!!
