This is my favorite "comfort" food, especially in winter.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup quick-cooking grits
  • 2 cups water
  • 2-3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/3 cup Mexican Blend shredded cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning, optional
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced

How To Make nana’s cheese & egg grits

  • Step 1
    Gather ingredients before beginning. Break eggs into small dish & set aside. Put cheese(s) into small dishes & set aside. Put 2 c water into saucepan, add salt. Place on burner set to med high to bring to a rolling boil.
  • Step 2
    Whisk in grits and cook on med until just beginning to boil. Reduce heat and cook for about 5 minutes or just beginning to thicken. Whisk in eggs until whites are cooked.
  • Step 3
    Add cheeses and whisk until melted. Remove from heat and serve up immediately. Good with toast or bagels.
