Quiche is considered a French dish, however egg custards in pastry were known in English cuisine at least as early as the 14th century!

Ingredients

  • 1
    pie pastry
  • 8 slice
    bacon
  • 1 small
    onion, grated
  • 4 oz
    fresh mushrooms
  • 4
    eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 c
    shredded cheddar
  • dash(es)
    pepper
  • 2 Tbsp
    flour
  • 1 1/2 c
    milk
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • dash(es)
    red pepper

How to Make Bacon-Mushroom Quiche

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 375
  2. Cook and crumble bacon.
  3. Saute onion and mushrooms in a small amount of bacon drippings until soft. (Onions aren't pictured because I was making it for someone who doesn't eat them)
  4. Toss cheese with flour.
  5. Slightly beat eggs. Add Milk, salt, pepper and red pepper to eggs. Fold in bacon and onion into egg mixture, then cheese and mushrooms.
  6. Pour into unbaked pie shell. Place pie tin on a cookie sheet and bake at 375 for 35-40 minutes.
  7. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
