Ingredients

1 pkg
french bread loaf
6 large
eggs
1/3 c
vegetable oil
3 Tbsp
grand marnier or other orange liquer
2 Tbsp
half and half
1/3 c
sugar
1 Tbsp
lemon zest, grated
1 c
powdered sugar

How to Make Pain Perdu

Step-by-Step

  • 1In a heavy 12 inch skillet over medium heat, heat oil. In a medium bowl, combine eggs, liqueur, milk, sugar and lemon zest. Whisk until eggs are frothy and sugar is dissolved.
  • 2When oil is hot, dip bread slices into batter, turning to coat well. Place coated bread in hot oil in batches. Keep warm while frying remaining slices.
  • 3Fry until golden brown on both sides, turning once, 5 to 6 minutes. Drain on paper towels; lightly sprinkle with powdered sugar.
