My father-in-law has a pear tree in his yard and brought me over a garbage sack of ripe pears one day. I found this recipe in an old recipe book my mother had. I gave away and froze the remaining bread for another day!

Great with coffee in the morning or an afternoon snack!

  • 1 c
    fresh or canned pears
  • 1/2 c
  • 1 c
  • 2
  • 1/4 c
    sour cream
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp
  • 1/4 tsp
  • 1/2 c
    nuts, chopped

How to Make Pear Bread


  1. Beat oil and sugar until well blended. Beat in aggs, one at a time. Add sour cream and vanilla.
  2. Sift together flour, Salt, soda, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add to wet mixture. Beat until well blended. Fold in pears and nuts.
  3. Spoon into a 9x5 inch loaf pan
  4. Bake at 350 degrees for one hour. Cool in pan for 15 minutes, then turn out and cool on rack.
