What a wonderfully flavorful and hearty breakfast dish! The smoked sausage is a delight, so don't skimp, ya hear? Also, I can imagine this being just as divine with any number of cheese combinations. Grab your favorite varieties and get creative!
1Heat oven to 325. Grease a 9X13 dish. Bring water to a boil; add 1 tsp salt slowly stir in grits. Reduce heat and simmer 4-5 minutes until thickened stirring frequently.
2Stir in chopped smoked sausage and half of sharp cheese. Spoon into dish and sprinkle with remaining cheese. Combine eggs, milk and spices. Pour over grits mixture and bake for 50 minutes or until knife inserted 1 1/2 inches from side comes out clean. Let stand 10-15 minutes. Garnish with tomato and parsley.
