This is a really simple make-ahead breakfast casserole.

Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 slices white bread
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 pound sausage, browned
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar, mild or sharp
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard

How To Make breakfast casserole (pennsylvania dutch "cowboy")

  • Step 1
    Beat eggs. Add milk, salt and mustard, mixing well.
  • Step 2
    Grease bottom of 9 x 13 baking dish.
  • Step 3
    Layer bread cubes, then sausage, then cheese. Pour egg mixture over the top.
  • Step 4
    Refrigerate overnight.
  • Step 5
    Bake at 350F for 45 minutes.
  • Step 6
    Let stand about 5 minutes before cutting.
  • Step 7
    NOTE: For 8 people use 3 slices of bread and 8 eggs.
