This breakfast casserole has been part of our Christmas morning breakfast for years. I cooked at a church camp for many years, and I fixed this at least one morning during the week of camp for 100 teenagers. They loved it! So easy. Better if made the night before. You can use cooked sausage, bacon, or ham.

Ingredients

  • 6 slices bread (lightly buttered)
  • 1 pound pork sausage
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 8 eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • salt and pepper to taste

How To Make breakfast casserole

  • Step 1
Brown sausage in a skillet on the stove top. Drain off any grease.
  • Step 2
Place 6 slices of buttered bread (both sides) on the bottom of a 9x13 baking dish.
  • Step 3
Sprinkle cooked sausage on top of the bread.
  • Step 4
    Sprinkle cheese over the sausage.
  • Step 5
Whisk eggs, milk, salt, and pepper together in a large bowl.
  • Step 6
Pour egg mixture over cheese, and press down with back of a spoon.
  • Step 7
Refrigerate overnight OR bake immediately. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes to 1 hour. If your oven browns quickly, you can cover it with foil to keep it from getting too brown.
