I attended a luncheon in Portland, Maine once and sat beside Jimmy Dean at the Eastland Hotel. He was promoting his Company and his products at that time. He had a location in our city.

This is his Signature recipe I made using his Jimmy Dean Regular Flavored Sausage, and this is in honor of him.

Ingredients

1 pkg
'jimmy dean' fresh sausage, regular flavor
4 c
cubed, day old bread
2 c
shredded, sharp cheddar cheese
10
eggs, slightly beaten
4 c
milk
1 tsp
dry mustard
1 tsp
salt
1/4 tsp
onion powder
fresh ground pepper to taste
1/2 c
mushrooms, sliced, optional
1/2 c
tomatoes, peeled, chopped (optional)

How to Make Breakfast Casserole

Step-by-Step

  • 1Place bread in well buttered 9 x 13 baking dish. Sprinkle with cheese. Combine the next six ingredients. Pour evenly over the bread and cheese. Sprinkle cooked sausage and optional ingredients over the top.

    Cover and chill overnight
  • 2Let baking dish come to room temperature before baking or about 1 hour.

    Preheat oven to 325F degrees.

    Bake uncovered for about 1 hour.Tent with foil if top begins to brown too quickly.
  • 3Makes 6 servings.
