Reworked this recipe from another that I saw on FB. I like this version much better. It is a great mix of sweet and savory

prep time 12 Hr
cook time 1 Hr
method Bake
yield 6-8 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 1 pound country sausage
  • 12 dashes hawaiian bread rolls
  • 8 - eggs
  • - salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 ounces cream cheese
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon apple pie spice
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup (enough for drizzling)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon dried onions

How To Make breakfast bread pudding

  • Step 1
(BEST assembled the night before cooking) Brown sausage and drain any grease (feel free to mix hot sausage in this). Add softened cream cheese, red pepper, and dried onions to the sausage mixture. Set aside.
  • Step 2
In another bowl, combine 3 cups milk, vanilla, apple pie spice, salt and pepper and whisk together. Add rolls (tear them as you add) to the milk mixture one by one. Stir the mixture and let it sit for a few minutes. Then repeat this step until most of the moisture is absorbed.
  • Step 3
Grease a 13x9 pan with butter or butter flavored spray. Layer half of the bread mixture on the bottom of the pan. Then spread the sausage mixture on top of the bread mixture. Drizzle some of the syrup over the sausage mixture, and then spread the remaining half of the bread mixture on top of that. Drizzle the remaining syrup on top of the bread mixture. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • Step 4
Baking Instruction: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Uncover casserole and place it on the center of the bottom rack. Cook it for about an hour and ten minutes. Let it stand ten minutes before serving. Enjoy!
