I think the name comes from having to wait a least 8 hours to dig into it. Enjoy!

Blue Ribbon Recipe

This simple casserole is great if you're having houseguests. It's prepared the night before so you just have to pop it in the oven in the morning. The basic casserole is delicious and bakes perfectly. For testing purposes, we stuck with the basic recipe, but you could really have some fun with the add-in options. Your crew is going to gobble this up!

How To Make breakfast awaits

  • Crumbled sausage in a frying pan.
    1
Bring a large nonstick skillet to medium heat. Add the sausage and cook until browned. If you are adding any veggies (all except for spinach, if using spinach add in step 2, along with the meat mixture) to the casserole you will need to add them to the sausage about halfway through the cooking process to ensure they get a good saute.
  • Bread arranged in a baking dish with crumbled sausage on top.
    2
Arrange the bread on the bottom of a well buttered 13x9 inch baking dish. Scatter the well-drained meat mixture over the bread.
  • Cheese sprinkled on top of crumbled sausage.
    3
    Sprinkle on the cheese.
  • Dry mustard added to whisked eggs and milk in a bowl.
    4
Mix the eggs, milk, dry mustard, and salt in a bowl.
  • Pouring egg mixture over bread, sausage, and cheese.
    5
Pour over the bread and meat mixture.
  • Baking dish covered in aluminum foil.
    6
Seal the baking dish with foil and refrigerate for at least 8 hours.
  • Covered casserole dish baking in the oven.
    7
When ready to bake, remove from the refrigerator leaving the foil on and set on the counter for no more then half hour to allow the pan to get to a slight room temperature.
  • Casserole baking in the oven.
    8
Bake covered with foil at 350 degrees for 40 min.
  • Casserole baking uncovered with melted cheese.
    9
Uncover and bake for an additional 12-15 min until the top is golden. Enjoy!
