How to Make Baking Powder Biscuits

  1. Preheat oven to 450. Bake 10 to 15 minutes
  2. Combine dry ingredients. Cut in shortening 'till size of course crumbs. (add bacon or cheese if desired). Add milk (1/2 orange juice and 1/2 milk, if making orange buscuits) ALL AT ONCE. Stir 'till dough follows fork around bowl. Knead 15 sec. *Pat or roll to 1/2" thick (add orange sugar if desired). Cut. (I had a buscuit cutter, uptown!!) or with a glass turned upside down). Bake as above.
  3. *BUTTERSCOTCH: Roll out to 1/8" thick, brush with melted butter, sprinkle with brown sugar, cinnamon and chopped nuts (and raisins if desired). Roll as for jelly roll. Slice 1/2 thick, place on cookie sheet. Bake as above. Watch so they don't burn!
  4. *ICING: 1 cup powdered sugar, 1 TBSP milk, 1 TBSP vanilla. Mix until smooth. Ice buscuits...YUMMM
