baked french toast

I served this for breakfast at the church and got rave reviews. I baked it the night before, then just warmed it up. This receipe can be easily doubled. It is not too sweet, and can be used for gluten free if you use gluten free bread.

Ingredients
- 1 loaf - french bread, sliced
- 8 large eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 can evaporated milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 pinch salt
- TOPPING
- 2 sticks butter
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
- 4 tablespoons corn syrup, dark or light
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
How To Make baked french toast

Step 1Pre heat oven to 375F. Butter bottom and sides of deep 9 x 13 baking dish.

Step 2Arrange bread slices (standing up) in dish and set aside.

Step 3In large mixing bowl meat eggs, milks, sugar, salt, vanilla and spices until completely mixed and frothy.Pour mixture over the bread, making sure it gets between the slices and set aside.

Step 4In separate mixing bowl cream together butter, brown sugar, syrup, vanilla and spices, mixing util well blended. Stir in chopped nuts, and spread mixture over the bread.

Step 5Bake uncovered 20 - 25 minutes until browned and bubbly. Allow to cool slightly and serve warm with pancake syrup, if desired.
