I got the idea for this dish from breakfast casseroles and apple pudding recipes. It is a nice sweet change from the typical breakfast casserole and it is so easy to prepare. It can be served at a brunch or in place of coffee cake.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz
    turkey brown and serve sausage links, cooked, drained well, and sliced
  • 1 qt
    baking apples, sliced
  • 1/8 c
    cinnamon - or to taste
  • 3/4 c
    sugar
  • 1/2 stick
    butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 c
    milk
  • 1 c
    baking mix
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 3 Tbsp
    cornstarch
  • 1 c
    hot water

How to Make Apple Breakfast Bake

Step-by-Step

  1. Place sausage slices in bottom of 9 x 13 baking pan.Mix together cinnamon and 3/4 cup sugar. Toss cinnamon mixture with apples. Place apples on top of sausage.
  2. Combine butter, milk, and baking mix. Spread over apples.
  3. Combine 1 cup sugar and cornstarch; sprinkle over top of batter. Pour hot water over casserole.
  4. Bake in a 350 oven for 45 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
