Layered Ham ~ N ~ Cheese Strata
Make sure you use a flavorful ham. I buy the 2 pound chunks and cut it myself, but can use the already cubed ham just as well.
1 - 2 Tbspbacon fat or oil
3 cgood cooked ham, cubed into 1/2 - 1 inch pieces
1 largeonion, chopped
10 - 12 Tbspmedium thickness - slices of french bread
buttersoftened, enough to butter both sides of bread
4 ozshredded, provolone cheese
8 ozshredded, cheddar cheese - i use sharp
11 largeeggs, beaten
1 tspeach - kosher salt & pepper or to taste
1 tspdried parsley
How to Make Layered Ham ~ N ~ Cheese Strata
- Butter a 9 x 13 baking dish. Set Aside.
I then sliced a loaf of french bread, about 1 1/2 inch thickness. Butter both sides of bread and lay in bottom of dish to cover bottom, without overlapping. You may have to cut one in half to fit it in, depending how big your slices are.
Layer half the onion and ham mixture evenly over the buttered bread.
