Granny Grant's Easy Egg Casserole

Fran Murray

My Mom always makes this on Christmas morning. It's easy to put together and is prepared the night before. All you have to do Christmas morning is pop it into the oven!

8 slice
of buttered white bread
1 lb
grated, sharp cheddar cheese
5 large
eggs, beaten
3 c
whole milk or a combination of milk and half & half
3/4 tsp
dry mustard
3/4 tsp
cook's choice of any "extra goodie" such as: chopped ham, sauteed mushrooms, chopped olives, crumbled bacon, browned & crumbled sausage, chopped green chilies, etc.

How to Make Granny Grant's Easy Egg Casserole

  • 1Break buttered bread into pieces and put in the bottom of a greased 9- by 13-inch pan.
  • 2Spread grated cheese over bread.
  • 3Add any extra goodies you choose and sprinkle over the cheese.
  • 4Pour combined milk, beaten eggs, salt and dry mustard over all.
  • 5Refrigerate AT LEAST over night; longer is okay.
  • 6Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. I usually leave the casserole covered with aluminum foil for the first 30 minutes and then remove the foil for the last 30 minutes of baking. The casserole is done when it is bubbling and lightly browned.
