sweet roll dough
(1 RATING)
This is a great basic sweet roll dough that works well for any sweet yeast bread; i.e.: cinnamon rolls, orange zest rolls, monkey breads, sweet bread, Cheese filled rolls, etc. My family is especially fond of Cinnamon Rolls and Orange Zest Rolls. I've used this for years, so I am afraid I don't remember where I got the recipe from...but I know it's a good'un!

Ingredients
- 1 package active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm water (105-115f)
- 1/2 cup lukewarm milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup butter, or butter flavored shortening
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 - egg
- 3 1/2-4 cups all-purpose flour
How To Make sweet roll dough
-
Step 1Dissolve yeast in warm water in large bowl. Stir in milk, sugar, shortening, salt, egg and 2 cups of the flour. Beat until smooth.
-
Step 2Mix in enough of the additional flour to make a soft dough, easy to handle (I use my hands). Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface, and knead until it is smooth and elastic about 6 minutes. Place upside down in a greased bowl, then, turn the dough right side up again, and cover the bowl with a clean towel, paper towels or clear wrap-don't wrap tightly! Let rise in a warm place, free of drafts, until double in size. About 90 minutes.
-
Step 3Remove dough when it's ready (Dough is ready if an indentation remains when touched). Punch it down with a closed fist to the bottom of the bowl. Roll out for Cinnamon Rolls, Orange Zest Rolls, divide in portions and shape for whatever rolls you're making!
