Ingredients
- - 2 1/2 cups flour
- - 1 1/2 cups packed light brown sugar
- - 1 tbsp. shredded orange peel
- - 1/2 t. salt
- - 1/2 t. ground mace
- - 1/2 cup butter or margarine
- - 2 t. baking powder
- - 1/2 t. baking soda
- - 1 egg, beaten
- - 3/4 cup buttermilk
- - 1/2 t. ground cinnamon
- - 1/3 cup chopped walnuts
How To Make sweet breakfast bread

Step 1Combine flour, brown sugar, orange peel, salt and mace in a mixing bowl; cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Measure 1/3 cup and set it aside.

Step 2Add baking powder and soda to remaining crumbs. Combine egg and buttermilk; add to flour mixture, stirring until well mixed. Turn into a greased 9" square baking pan. Add cinnamon and walnuts to reserved crumbs; sprinkle evenly over batter.

Step 3Bake in a 400 oven for 45 to 55 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Makes 9 to 12 servings
