Ingredients

·2 1/2 cups flour

·1 1/2 cups packed light brown sugar

·1 tbsp. shredded orange peel

·1/2 t. salt

·1/2 t. ground mace

·1/2 cup butter or margarine

·2 t. baking powder

·1/2 t. baking soda

·1 egg, beaten

·3/4 cup buttermilk

·1/2 t. ground cinnamon

·1/3 cup chopped walnuts
How to Make Sweet Breakfast Bread
- Combine flour, brown sugar, orange peel, salt and mace in a mixing bowl; cut in
butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Measure 1/3 cup and set it aside. - Add baking powder and soda to remaining crumbs. Combine egg and buttermilk; add
to flour mixture, stirring until well mixed. Turn into a greased 9" square
baking pan. Add cinnamon and walnuts to reserved crumbs; sprinkle evenly over
batter. - Bake in a 400 oven for 45 to 55 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted
in center comes out clean. Makes 9 to 12 servings
