This is 1 of my late mother's homemade recipes.

yields: about 3 dozen


  • 1 1/2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1/3 c
  • 2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground nutmeg
  • 1
  • 1/2 c
  • 2 Tbsp
    butter, melted
  • ·
    oil for deep fat frying
  • ·
    confectioners' sugar

How to Make Sugared Donut Holes


  1. In a bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
  2. In a small bowl, combine egg, milk, and butter.
  3. Add wet mixture to dry mixture. Mix well.
  4. In a electric skillet or deep fat fryer, heat oil to 375 degrees.
  5. Drop dough by heaping teaspoons full; 5 or 6 at a time into oil.
  6. Fry until browned, about 1 - 2 minutes; turning once.
  7. Drain on paper towels.
  8. Roll in confectioners' sugar.
