This is a recipe I got from my aunt, I usually make this on holidays

Ingredients

  • 4 c
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 1/2 c
    butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 c
    buttermilk
  • 1 c
    chopped marischino cherries
  • 1/2 c
    chopped walnuts

How to Make SODA BREAD (CHERRY NUT BREAD)

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 375
  2. Sift together flour, salt & baking soda
  3. Mix together butter & sugar, add buttermilk
    Add to dry ingredients
  4. Add cherries & walnuts
  5. Knead slightly on a floured surface. (I use about 1 cup of flour)
  6. Divide dough into 2 balls
    Shape into loaves
    (use a cookie sheet do not use a loaf pan)
  7. Bake at 375 for 35 - 45 minutes or until knife comes out clean
