This is one of my son's--who is very picky even at age 21!--favorite snacks. I use any kind of apple I happen to have but we prefer macintosh or haralson.

Ingredients For roman apple cake

  • 1 c
    butter, room temperature
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 1/2 c
    brown sugar
  • 2
    eggs
  • 2 1/2 c
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 c
    chopped apples
  • 1 c
    buttermilk
  • TOPPING
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon

How To Make roman apple cake

    Grease 9 X 13 pan. Preheat oven to 325.
  • 2
    Cream together butter and sugars. Add remaining ingredients. Sprinkle topping over batter. (Stick a toothpick or tester down into top in several places so it won't just form a crust and not bake through.)

    Bake 35-40 minutes.
