This has been in my recipe box for 67 yrs and I make this at least a couple times a year. My friend Jackie gave me this recipe when we were young Navy wives, and I've shared it with my kids and friends. Warning, this will go fast it's so delicious! The autumn is the perfect time for making this and you can use fresh pumpkin if you want to prepare it, I've done that and it's extra good IMHO.
My card is so faded and almost destroyed I figured I'd best put it online.

  • 2 c
  • 1 c
    salad oil
  • 3 medium
  • 2 c
    canned pumpkin 13oz size
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 3 c
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    clove, ground
  • 1 tsp
  • 1 tsp
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda

How to Make Pumpkin Tea Bread from friend J. Crabtree


  1. Turn oven on to 350. Blend salad oil and sugar, add eggs beat until blended.
  2. Add spices, salt, soda and baking powder.
  3. Stir in pumpkin, sift flour and then add to mixture. I place batter into a well greased bundt pan or tube pan. Bake 1 hour 15 min or until straw comes out dry.
  4. Can be toasted, served with whipped cream or just a nice slice of moist pumpkin bread. It's the perfect season for this treat!! :-)
