My mom LaVonne would bake this during the holiday season sharing it with friends. Best part was eating the bread still warm and the dates were soft, melting on your tongue like a piece of candy.

Ingredients
- 3 cups pumpkin, canned or cooked
- 1 cup vegetable oil (melted margarine is fine)
- 4 cups sugar (part brown sugar is fine)
- 5 cups flour
- 4 teaspoons soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger and cloves
- 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spices optional
- 2 cups dates, chopped

Step 1Mix pumpkin, oil, and sugar.

Step 2Incorporate the flour, soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger,cloves, and pumpkin pie spice if desired.

Step 3Add chopped dates and divide batter into 3 large loaf pans or six small loaf pans that have been greased.

Step 4Bake in 350F. preheated oven for 50 minutes. Large loaves should be done in center. Check smaller loaves sooner.
